Central Da Nang city, Vietnam’s third-largest metropolis, has topped a list from Google of the ten most popular holiday destinations.

The list is based on Google’s research methodology of comparing the number of hotel searches for holidays in 2020 against the number of hotel searches in 2019.

The top 10 are seeing an increase in interest from travelers seeking a new place to visit. Surprisingly, well-known destinations like New York, Rome, Paris, London, and Barcelona failed to make the list, replaced by Asian countries.

Da Nang has become an emerging destination over recent years, with prices that are “comfy” for tourists. June is the peak travel season in the city, but at the moment, in January, a five-star hotel costs between $130 and $185 per night according to Google hotel search.

Google hotel search provides travelers not only with a place to sleep but also with features to find the best options.

Other cities on the list, in order, are Sao Paulo (Brazil), Seoul (South Korea), Tokyo (Japan), Tel Aviv (Israel), Marseille (France), Vienna (Austria), Bangkok (Thailand), Dubai (UAE), and Perth (Australia).

Da Nang is famous for its stunning coastline and sandy beaches and famous nearby world heritage sites such as My Son Sanctuary and Hoi An ancient town. It’s also a popular base for visiting the inland Ba Na Hills, the beautiful Hai Van Mountain Pass, with views over Da Nang Bay and Marble Mountains, and the Golden Bridge, which was opened in June 2018 and has gained a lot of public and social network attention.

The city welcomed nearly 8.7 million visitors in 2019, including over 3.5 million foreigners, up 13.4 per cent and 22.5 per cent against 2018.
